Subject: XYZ as XYZ Material?   PostPosted: Thu Mar 08, 2012 4:46 am Reply with quote

I read Number C39: Utopia Ray's effect, and it says that you can also use Utopia as material, and any material already attached to Utopia becomes material to Utopia Ray. So does that mean that normally you can't use a XYZ monster as material? Or you can but it loses it's material.

I really could use an explanation! Thanks!!

XYZ monsters cannot be used as XYZ material, except in a few cases in which the card specifically states that it can use x monster as a material(and all the material of that used monster is part of the new monster). The 3 known monsters who have the ability to gain XYZ monsters as Material are:

Chaos Number 39: Utopia
Sacred Ptolemys Messier 7
Thunderclap Knight - Gaia Dragoon

The use of XYZ monsters as materials is formally known as Chaos XYZ Change.

Oh, I did not know that! Thanks for the explanation!

Reason being xyz monsters have ranks, not levels, basically. I think those cards are super cheap however, since there is no limit to how many you can play. In a Hieratic deck, Gaia Dragoon spells death after just one turn most of the time.

Pretty much they're like Synchros, only slightly different. Instead of a monster and a tuner, you must have 2 or more monsters with the SAME level and the SAME level as the rank (the level) of the XYZ monster. You Overlay the monsters, meaning you place the monsters on top of each other on the field, then you place the XYZ monster on top of the card pile. The XYZ Material you use cannot attack or use they're ability, they're just part of the XYZ monster.
