Subject: Formatting of double-faced cards & double-sided tokens   PostPosted: Mon Dec 18, 2017 1:32 pm Reply with quote

WOTC's rules for double-faced cards: "Each face of a double-faced card has its own set of characteristics: name, types, subtypes, power and toughness, loyalty, abilities, and so on. While a double-faced card is on the battlefield, consider only the characteristics of the face that’s currently up. The other set of characteristics is ignored. While a double-faced card isn’t on the battlefield, consider only the characteristics of its front face."

All cards submitted (and updated) need to keep the above in mind, and have only the "front" face's stats in the fields of Power, Toughness, Type, Subtype, Color, and Artist.

The front and back faces of double-faced cards should be separated by "//" in the Name field (e.g. "Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh // Chandra, Roaring Flame") to denote they are double-faced. (Rotate, Split and Aftermath cards should have only 1 forward slash.)

In the Description box, separate the front from the back of the face with "<hr>". Do the following for the back face's description: Card name, Card type — subtype & P/T in parenthesis (if tranformed/melded into a creature), Color, Rules text, Loyalty (if tranformed into a planeswalker), Artist (if different from the front face).

The following is an example of formatting a double-faced card of a creature that transforms (or melds) into another creature (Bruna, the Fading Light // Brisela, Voice of Nightmares): When you cast Bruna, the Fading Light, you may return target Angel or Human creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.<p>Flying, vigilance<p><em>(Melds with Gisela, the Broken Blade.)<p>She now sees only Emrakul's visions.</em><strong><p><hr><p>Brisela, Voice of Nightmares</strong><p>Legendary Creature — Eldrazi Angel (9/10)<p>Color: Colorless<p>Flying, first strike, vigilance, lifelink<p>Your opponents cant´s cast spells with converted mana cost 3 or less.<p><em>Upon discovering what had become of her sisters, Sigarda could only weep.</em>

For more information on double-faced cards, see the Shadows over Innistrad mechanics article (http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/shadows-over-innistrad-mechanics).

Double-sided tokens have a number on each side that doesn't correlate to the number of variations, so I have started the card numbers with "DST" and then numbered based on lowest "front"/lowest "back" combinations. View the Commander 2014 tokens to see this numbering system in action. Double-sided tokens otherwise should appear like double-faced cards.

The following is an example of formatting a double-sided token (Treasure // Dinosaur): {T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.<p><strong><hr><p>Dinosaur</strong><br>Type: Token Creature<br>Subtype: Dinosaur<br>Color: Green<br>Rules Text: Trample<br>Power/Toughness: 3/3<br>Card Artist: Filip Burburan
