Dark Ritual
- It smells like murder!

It is all about speed!

Any good deck has a motive, and the motive is to win the game. In order to do so the deck need a goal. In most cases this is all about killing your opponent. The opponent usually has 20 lives, so this is going to get messy. The sooner you start splashing those lives out of him, the better, and more violent. To end 20 lives in an instant is bound to get messy.

Dark Rituals make it possible.

Good decks fighting on the top, always have a plan of how to reach the goal, and how fast. Unless you can manage to kill your opponent by round three, every time, you are as well as dead. To get that third round victory you need POWER. In the early parts of the game power comes from mana. That is why Black Lotus sells for US$ XXXX. This is what Dark Ritual brings you. It gives you the power of a first round victory, bloody and clean. And it cost you rubbish.

Boosting every other card!

Unless the casting cost is B, every black card is better off in a combo with Dark Ritual. Dark Ritual creates an overpowered Nantuko Shade out of Crypt Ripper. It sends your killer forces out in an incredible speed. Giving you the upper hand in almost every combat.

Victory is mine!

That is what you think when you draw a Dark Ritual in your starting hand. If your deck is good, you know you are going to win. With the Dark Ritual in hand, confidence is boosting. Not because it has a destructive force, but because it open doors. It keeps you in the game when you fall behind. There is always something you can do, just one step ahead, that can turn the game. All you need is Dark Ritual. Even if you occasionally are beaten to pieces and barely staying alive, your one hope is to draw the Dark Ritual. It can work the magic and let it happen.

The best buy on the market!

For less then a $ you can get a card that brings you power close to the Black Lotus. That is a $ XXXX discount. It makes every card in your deck better. Giving them the power of cards that cost ten times perhaps even hundreds of times more.

If you are playing with Dark Ritual, you are playing with power.

There are two kinds of decks in the world of magic. There are those with the courage to win, and there are those that delay the defeat. With a Dark Ritual in hand, your deck has the potential to be one of the decks that can to win. It helps you take out crappy control decks before they manage to do anything. It brings you the power to slam an early threat punishing your weaker opponents. And it gives you the power to take on the greater decks with a first round victory.

I agree with this review. This card alone has cause me to include black in the last 3-4 decks I've made.

It's a shame it finally got cycled out of the standard format.

It also spurs the idea of dream cards that perform the same function in other mana colors.

I totally agree with this. Very fast mana, I still use this card in almost all my black decks.

Granted Dark Ritual is a 10 as a card.

I think your review could have shown some specific out-of-the-gate possibilities for just how powerful it is. Maybe even an example from one of your decks or recent games?

Saying it's wonderful for 5 paragraphs isn't really a review, is it?!

However, I did like your "It smells like murder!" tag line - it drew me in to see what you had to say

But it's not just about a title when reviewing.
